En enero de este año advertía desde este mismo rincón que el dinero se estaba volviendo ecologista. Fue a raíz de la famosa carta de Larry Fink, en la que el fundador y presidente de BlackRock, la mayor gestora de fondos de inversión del mundo, exigía a sus empresas participadas (entre ellas las principales corporaciones del IBEX) una mejora en los indicadores de sostenibilidad.
Ahora llega diciembre y, tras recibir y revisar los informes sobre la evolución de dichos indicadores, la gestora informa que ha decidido devolvérselos a cerca de 250 compañías por su falta de compromiso, alertando a sus dirigentes del riesgo al que se enfrentan si persisten en ignorar sus requerimientos.
Porque la misiva de Fink no era tan solo una declaración de intenciones, sino un aviso a navegantes: "El año pasado BlackRock vetó a 4.800 directivos de 2.700 compañías al entender que no estaban generando buenos reportes sobre sostenibilidad, y cada vez vamos a estar más decididos a votar en contra de los consejos y las juntas directivas que no implementen las acciones correctas al respecto".
Por lo que parece, este año los directivos que van a perder sus puestos por desatender sus deberes en materia de sostenibilidad van a ser muchos más.
Y es que todavía son demasiados los dirigentes empresariales que creen que esto no va con ellos. Los que opinan que la sostenibilidad es una moda que pasará como otras lo han hecho.
Los que ignoran que estamos, no ya ante un cambio de tendencia, sino ante una revolución industrial en toda regla. Una nueva regla de funcionamiento que los va a dejar fuera de juego, por importantes que hoy sean, si persisten en desatenderla, mofarse de ella y hacer además alarde de ello.
Si Bill Clinton ganó contra pronóstico las presidenciales de 1992 con su famoso lema de campaña "es la economía, estúpido" ante un George Bush que se creía invencible y que se daba por reelegido, hoy son varias las grandes compañías que pueden perder los apoyos de los inversores y su prevalencia de mercado por no entender que "es la sostenibilidad, estúpido".
En nuestro país hace ahora dos años entraba en vigor la Ley 11/2018 de Información No Financiera y Diversidad. Una normativa que, entre otros requerimientos, obliga a que a partir del 2021 todas las empresas con más de 250 trabajadores elaboren un informe de sostenibilidad en el que deberán detallar las acciones que están llevando a cabo para disminuir su huella de carbono, reducir los residuos o hacer un uso más eficiente de la energía, entre otros indicadores ambientales. Unos compromisos que buena parte de las grandes empresas ya están aceptando. Pero no las medianas y pequeñas.
Esta semana publicaba elDiario.es una interesante entrevista a Cristina Sánchez, Directora de la Red Española del Pacto Mundial, organización dedicada a fomentar la sostenibilidad empresarial, en la que se aludía a esa brecha medioambiental.
"La sostenibilidad está ya en todas las áreas de negocio de las grandes compañías -declaraba- Poco a poco se está consiguiendo y cada vez hay más madurez en ese sentido. Pero la brecha con las pequeñas empresas se va agrandando y la pandemia la ha empeorado."
Para la responsable del Pacto Mundial en España "muchas pymes se están metiendo en esto porque algún gran cliente se lo pide, o porque quieren optar a un contrato público y los pliegos valoran estos criterios; o simplemente porque al dueño les llama la atención el tema. Pero no tienen los recursos internos necesarios, alguien que pueda dedicarse a hacer un mapeo de riesgos e identificar acciones concretas de mejora."
Y esa brecha es una de las mayores amenazas para nuestra economía. Porque si no logramos escalar la sostenibilidad a todo nuestro sistema productivo, a todo nuestro tejido empresarial, no lograremos que esta se convierta en la gran palanca de cambio que en realidad es.
Una palanca que en países como Alemania, fuertemente industrializados y con notables obstáculos de adaptación, hace tiempo que se está utilizando para avanzar en no solo en términos de responsabilidad ambiental, sino de competitividad.

¡Es la sostenibilidad, estúpido!

In January of this year, I warned in my column that money was turning greener. It was in the wake of Larry Fink's famous letter. In it, Fink, chairman and CEO of BlackRock, the world’s largest investment firm, demanded that his investee companies improve their sustainability indicators, including the biggest Spanish corporations.
Now it's December and, after receiving and reviewing the reports on the evolution of these indicators, the company has decided to return them to nearly 250 companies for their lack of commitment, alerting their managers to the risk they face if they persist in ignoring their requirements.
Fink's message was not just a letter of intent, but a storm warning. "Last year BlackRock voted against or withheld votes from 4,800 directors at 2,700 different companies. Where we feel companies and boards are not producing effective sustainability disclosures or implementing frameworks for managing these issues, we will hold board members accountable".
It seems that this year many more executives will lose their jobs for neglecting their sustainability duties.
There are still too many business executives who believe that this is not the right approach for them. They believe that sustainability is a trend that will pass, much like others have done.
They do not know that we are not facing a change of trend, but a genuine industrial revolution. No matter how important they are today. If they persist in ignoring it, mocking it and even boasting about it, this new rule will exclude them from the game.

Two years ago, Spain introduced a new law (11/2018) on financial information and diversity. Among other requirements, this law demands all companies with more than 250 employees prepare a sustainability report by 2021. In it, they must detail the actions they are taking to reduce their carbon footprint, reduce waste or make more efficient use of energy, as well as other environmental indicators. Many large companies are already accepting these commitments. But the small and medium aren't doing it yet.
This week, elDiario.es published an interesting interview with Cristina Sánchez, executive director in Spain at Global Compact Network. This organisation is committed to promoting business sustainability. In the interview she mentioned this environmental gap.
"Sustainability is already in all business areas of large companies," she said. "Things are slowly coming together and there is more and more awareness of the importance of this. But the gap with small businesses is widening and the pandemic has made it worse."
For the head of the Global Compact in Spain, "many SMEs are getting into this because some large customer asks them to, or because they want to bid for a public contract and the specifications value these criteria; or simply because the owner's attention is drawn to the issue. But they don't have the necessary internal resources, someone who can devote himself to mapping risks and identifying concrete actions for improvement".
And that gap is one of the biggest threats to our economy. Because if we do not manage to scale up sustainability to our entire production system, to our entire business structures, we will not succeed in making it the huge change engine that it really is.
An engine that in countries such as Germany, which are highly industrialised and have considerable obstacles to adaptation, has long been used to make progress not only in terms of environmental responsibility, but also in terms of competitiveness.

Υπάρχουν πάρα πολλοί επιχειρηματίες που πιστεύουν ότι αυτό δεν τους αφορά, που πιστεύουν ότι η βιωσιμότητα είναι μια τάση που θα περάσει όπως τόσες άλλες, και που αγνοούν ότι δεν είμαστε αντιμέτωποι με μια απλή αλλαγή τάσης αλλά με μια πραγματική βιομηχανική επανάσταση

Τον Ιανουάριο του τρέχοντος έτους, προειδοποιούσα στη στήλη μου ότι τα χρήματα γίνονταν πιο... πράσινα. Ήταν ύστερα από τη διάσημη επιστολή του Λάρι Φινκ. Σε αυτήν, ο Φινκ, πρόεδρος και διευθύνων σύμβουλος της BlackRock, της μεγαλύτερης εταιρείας επενδύσεων στον κόσμο, ζήτησε από τις εταιρείες στις οποίες έχουν επενδύσει να βελτιώσουν τους δείκτες βιωσιμότητάς τους, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των μεγαλύτερων ισπανικών εταιρειών.
Τώρα είναι Δεκέμβριος και, αφού έλαβε και εξέτασε τις εκθέσεις σχετικά με την εξέλιξη αυτών των δεικτών, η εταιρεία αποφάσισε να τις στείλει πίσω σε σχεδόν 250 εταιρείες εξαιτίας της έλλειψης δέσμευσης τους, προειδοποιώντας τους διευθυντές τους για τον κίνδυνο που αντιμετωπίζουν εάν συνεχίσουν να αγνοούν τις απαιτήσεις τους.
Το μήνυμα του Φινκ δεν ήταν απλώς μια επιστολή προθέσεων, αλλά μια προειδοποίηση για ακραία καιρικά φαινόμενα. «Πέρυσι η BlackRock καταψήφισε ή ήρε το δικαίωμα ψήφου &nbsp;4.800 διευθυντών σε 2.700 διαφορετικές εταιρείες. Όπου πιστεύουμε ότι οι εταιρείες και τα διοικητικά συμβούλια δεν παράγουν αποτελεσματικές γνωστοποιήσεις βιωσιμότητας ή δεν εφαρμόζουν πλαίσια για τη διαχείριση αυτών των ζητημάτων, τα μέλη του διοικητικού συμβουλίου θα κληθούν να λογοδοτήσουν».
Φαίνεται ότι φέτος πολλά περισσότερα στελέχη θα χάσουν τις δουλειές τους επειδή παραμελούν τα καθήκοντά τους περί βιωσιμότητας.
Υπάρχουν ακόμα πάρα πολλά στελέχη επιχειρήσεων που πιστεύουν ότι αυτή δεν είναι η σωστή προσέγγιση για αυτούς. Πιστεύουν ότι η βιωσιμότητα είναι μια τάση που θα περάσει, όπως τόσες άλλες.
Δε γνωρίζουν ότι δεν αντιμετωπίζουμε μια αλλαγή τάσης, αλλά μια πραγματική βιομηχανική επανάσταση. Δεν έχει σημασία πόσο σημαντικοί αισθάνονται σήμερα. Εάν επιμείνουν να την αγνοούν, να την κοροϊδεύουν και ακόμη και να καυχιόνται γι' αυτό, αυτός ο νέος κανόνας θα τους αποκλείσει από το παιχνίδι.
Ο Μπιλ Κλίντον κέρδισε τις προεδρικές εκλογές του 1992 ενάντια στα προγνωστικά με το διάσημο σύνθημα της εκστρατείας του «είναι η οικονομία, ηλίθιε!», εναντίον κάποιου (Τζορτζ Μπους) που πίστευε ότι ήταν ανίκητος και ήταν έτοιμος να επανεκλεγεί. Σήμερα, ορισμένες μεγάλες εταιρείες ενδέχεται να χάσουν την υποστήριξη των επενδυτών και τη θέση τους στην αγορά, επειδή δεν καταλαβαίνουν ότι «είναι η βιωσιμότητα, ηλίθιε!».
Πριν από δύο χρόνια, η Ισπανία εισήγαγε έναν νέο νόμο (11/2018) σχετικά με τις χρηματοοικονομικές πληροφορίες και την ποικιλομορφία. Μεταξύ άλλων, αυτός ο νόμος απαιτεί από όλες τις εταιρείες με περισσότερους από 250 υπαλλήλους να προετοιμάσουν μια έκθεση βιωσιμότητας έως το 2021. Σε αυτήν, πρέπει να αναλύουν λεπτομερώς τις ενέργειες που λαμβάνουν για να μειώσουν το αποτύπωμα άνθρακα τους, να μειώσουν τα απόβλητα ή να κάνουν πιο αποτελεσματική χρήση ενέργειας, καθώς επίσης και άλλους περιβαλλοντικούς δείκτες. Πολλές μεγάλες εταιρείες αποδέχονται ήδη αυτές τις δεσμεύσεις. Αλλά οι μικρές και οι μεσαίες δεν το κάνουν ακόμα.
Αυτή την εβδομάδα, το elDiario.es δημοσίευσε μια ενδιαφέρουσα συνέντευξη με την Κριστίνα Σάντσεθ, εκτελεστική διευθύντρια του Global Compact Network στην Ισπανία. Αυτός ο οργανισμός έχει δεσμευτεί να προωθήσει τη βιωσιμότητα των επιχειρήσεων. Στη συνέντευξη ανέφερε αυτό το περιβαλλοντικό κενό.
«Η βιωσιμότητα υπάρχει ήδη σε όλους τους επιχειρηματικούς τομείς μεγάλων εταιρειών», είπε. «Τα πράγματα σιγά - σιγά μπαίνουν στη θέση τους και υπάρχει όλο και περισσότερη επίγνωση της σημασίας αυτού. Ωστόσο, το χάσμα με τις μικρές επιχειρήσεις διευρύνεται και η πανδημία το έκανε χειρότερο».
Για την επικεφαλής του Global Compact στην Ισπανία, «πολλές μικρομεσαίες επιχειρήσεις συμμετέχουν σε αυτό επειδή κάποιοι μεγάλοι πελάτες τους ζητούν ή επειδή θέλουν να υποβάλουν προσφορά για μια δημόσια σύμβαση και οι προδιαγραφές προβλέπουν τέτοια τα κριτήρια ή απλώς επειδή εφιστάται η προσοχή του ιδιοκτήτη στο ζήτημα. Αλλά δεν έχουν τους απαραίτητους εσωτερικούς πόρους, κάποιον που να μπορεί να αφιερωθεί στη χαρτογράφηση κινδύνων και στον εντοπισμό συγκεκριμένων δράσεων για βελτίωση».
Και αυτό το κενό είναι μια από τις μεγαλύτερες απειλές για την οικονομία μας. Διότι εάν δεν καταφέρουμε να αυξήσουμε τη βιωσιμότητα σε ολόκληρο το σύστημα παραγωγής μας, σε ολόκληρες τις επιχειρηματικές μας δομές, δε θα καταφέρουμε να το καταστήσουμε την τεράστια κινητήρια δύναμη για αλλαγές που είναι πραγματικά.
Μια κινητήρια δύναμη που σε χώρες όπως η Γερμανία, οι οποίες είναι ιδιαίτερα βιομηχανοποιημένες και έχουν σημαντικά εμπόδια στην προσαρμογή, έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί από καιρό για να σημειωθεί πρόοδος όχι μόνο όσον αφορά την περιβαλλοντική ευθύνη, αλλά και όσον αφορά την ανταγωνιστικότητα.

Είναι η βιωσιμότητα, ηλίθιε!

Wciąż jest zbyt wielu biznesmenów uważających, że zrównoważony rozwój to nie ich działka, że jest modą, która przeminie jak wiele innych. Nie zdają sobie sprawy z tego, że nie stoimy w obliczu zmiany trendu, ale prawdziwej rewolucji przemysłowej.

W styczniu tego roku ostrzegałem w mojej rubryce, że pieniądze stają się bardziej zielone. Było to następstwem słynnego listu Larry'ego Finka. Prezes i dyrektor generalny BlackRock, największej firmy inwestycyjnej na świecie, zażądał, aby beneficjenci jego inwestycji -w tym największe hiszpańskie korporacje - poprawiły swoje wskaźniki dotyczące zrównoważonego rozwoju.
Obecnie mamy grudzień: po otrzymaniu i przeanalizowaniu raportów na temat ewolucji tych wskaźników, firma zdecydowała się zwrócić je do 250 przedsiębiorstw, które nie wykazały się dostatecznym zaangażowaniem, ostrzegając menadżerów o ryzyku, jakie ich czeka, jeśli nadal będą ignorować wymagania.
List Finka nie miał charakteru czysto informacyjnego, ale był swoistym ostrzeżeniem przed burzą. "W zeszłym roku BlackRock zagłosował przeciwko (lub wstrzymał się od głosu) 4 800 dyrektorom w 2 700 różnych przedsiębiorstwach. Jeśli uważamy, że spółki i rady nadzorcze nie ujawniają w sposób skuteczny informacji o zrównoważonym rozwoju lub nie wdrażają ram, w celu zarządzania tymi kwestiami, pociągamy członków rady nadzorczej do odpowiedzialności".
Wydaje się, że w tym roku znacznie więcej dyrektorów straci pracę za zaniedbywanie obowiązków związanych ze zrównoważonym rozwojem.
Zbyt wielu członków kadry kierowniczej przedsiębiorstw wciąż uważa, że nie jest to właściwe podejście. Wierzą, że zrównoważony rozwój jest modą, która przeminie, tak jak wszystkie inne.
Nie wiedzą, że nie stoimy w obliczu zmiany trendu, lecz znaleźliśmy się u progu prawdziwej rewolucji przemysłowej. Nieważne, jak wysoką pozycję zajmują dzisiaj. Jeśli uporczywie będą ignorować zrównoważony rozwój, kpić z niego, a nawet chwalić się swoją negacją, nowe zasady wykluczą ich z gry.

Dziś wiele dużych przedsiębiorstw może stracić poparcie inwestorów i przewagę rynkową, ponieważ nie rozumieją hasła "Zrównoważony rozwój, głupcze!".
Dwa lata temu Hiszpania wprowadziła nową ustawę (11/2018) o informacji finansowej i różnorodności. Ustawa między innyymi zobowiązuje wszystkie przedsiębiorstwa zatrudniające ponad 250 pracowników do przygotowania do 2021 r. raportu dotyczącego zrównoważonego rozwoju. Muszą w nim wyszczególnić działania, które podejmują w celu zmniejszenia śladu węglowego, zmniejszenia ilości odpadów lub bardziej efektywnego wykorzystania energii, jak również inne wskaźniki środowiskowe. Wiele dużych przedsiębiorstw już teraz przyjmuje te zobowiązania. Jednak małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa jeszcze tego nie robią.
W tym tygodniu, elDiario.es opublikował interesujący wywiad z Cristiną Sánchez, dyrektor wykonawczą w Hiszpanii dla Global Compact Network. Organizacja ta jest zaangażowana w promowanie zrównoważonego rozwoju w biznesie. W wywiadzie wspomniała o lukach ekologicznych.
"Zrównoważony rozwój dotyczy już wszystkich obszarów działalności dużych przedsiębiorstw", powiedziała. "Sprawy powoli się układają i coraz więcej osób jest tego świadomym. Ale zaległości małych przedsiębiorstw powiększają się, a pandemia bardzo niekorzystnie wpływa na sytuację".
Zdaniem szefowej firmy Global Compact w Hiszpanii "wiele małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw wchodzi w to, na prośbę jakiegoś ważnego klienta, albo chcąc ubiegać się o zamówienie publiczne, a specyfikacje cenią te kryteria; albo po prostu dlatego, że zwraca się uwagę właściciela na tę kwestię. Ale nie mają one niezbędnych zasobów wewnętrznych, kogoś, kto mógłby poświęcić się mapowaniu ryzyka i określaniu konkretnych działań na rzecz poprawy".
Ta luka jest jednym z największych zagrożeń dla naszej gospodarki. Ponieważ jeśli nie uda nam się rozszerzyć zrównoważonego rozwoju na cały system produkcyjny, na całe struktury biznesowe, nie uda nam się uczynić z niego potężnego motoru zmian, którym jest w rzeczywistości.
Motorem, który w krajach takich jak Niemcy - wysoko uprzemysłowionych i napotykających na znaczne przeszkody w dostosowaniu się do nowych wymogów - od dawna pozwala na znaczące postępy, nie tylko w zakresie odpowiedzialności za środowisko, ale również w zakresie konkurencyjności.

Zrównoważony rozwój, głupcze!

Zrównoważony rozwój nie jest modą. To nie korekta dotychczasowego kursu - to prawdziwa rewolucja przemysłowa.

En janvier de cette année, j'ai averti dans ma chronique que l'argent devenait plus vert. C'était dans le sillage de la célèbre lettre de Larry Fink. Dans cette lettre, M. Fink, président et directeur général de BlackRock, le plus grand fonds d'investissement du monde, demandait à ses sociétés d'améliorer leurs indicateurs de durabilité, y compris les plus grandes sociétés espagnoles.
Nous sommes maintenant en décembre et, après avoir reçu et examiné les rapports sur l'évolution de ces indicateurs, BlackRock a décidé de les renvoyer à près de 250 entreprises pour leur manque d'engagement, en alertant leurs dirigeants sur le risque qu'ils couraient s'ils persistaient à ignorer les exigences environnementales du fonds.
Le message de M. Fink n'était pas seulement une lettre d'intention, mais un sérieux avertissement. « L'année dernière, BlackRock a voté contre ou s'est abstenu de voter pour 4 800 directeurs de 2 700 entreprises différentes. Lorsque nous estimons que les entreprises et les conseils d'administration ne publient pas d'informations efficaces sur le développement durable ou ne mettent pas en place des cadres de gestion de ces questions, nous en tiendrons les membres du conseil d'administration responsables ».
Il semble que cette année, beaucoup plus de cadres vont perdre leur emploi pour avoir négligé leurs devoirs en matière de durabilité.
Encore trop de chefs d'entreprise pensent que ce n'est pas la bonne approche pour eux. Ils pensent encore que la durabilité est une tendance qui, comme d'autres avant elle, finira par passer.
Ils ne savent pas que nous ne sommes pas confrontés à un changement de tendance, mais à une véritable révolution industrielle. Quelle que soit leur importance aujourd'hui, s'ils persistent à l'ignorer, à s'en moquer et même à s'en vanter, cette nouvelle règle les exclura du jeu.

Cette loi exige notamment que toutes les entreprises de plus de 250 employés préparent un rapport de durabilité d'ici 2021. Dans ce rapport, elles doivent détailler les actions qu'elles entreprennent pour réduire leur empreinte carbone, diminuer les déchets ou utiliser l'énergie de manière plus efficace, ainsi que d'autres indicateurs environnementaux. De nombreuses grandes entreprises se plient déjà à ces engagements. Mais les petites et moyennes entreprises ne le font pas encore.
Cette semaine, elDiario.es a publié une interview intéressante de Cristina Sánchez, directrice en Espagne du réseau Global Compact. Cette organisation s'est engagée à promouvoir la durabilité des entreprises. Dans l'interview, Mme Sánchez a mentionné ce fossé environnemental.
« La durabilité est déjà présente dans tous les domaines d'activité des grandes entreprises », a-t-elle déclaré. « Les choses se mettent lentement en place et la prise de conscience de l'importance de cette question ne cesse de croître. Mais le fossé avec les petites entreprises se creuse et la pandémie a aggravé la situation ».
Selon Cristina Sánchez, « de nombreuses PME s'engagent dans cette voie parce qu'un gros client le leur demande, ou parce qu'elles veulent postuler à un marché public et que le cahier des charges met en avant ces critères, ou simplement parce que la question intéresse le propriétaire. Mais elles n'ont pas les ressources internes nécessaires, quelqu'un qui puisse se consacrer à la cartographie des risques et à l'identification d'actions concrètes pour s'améliorer ».
Or cet écart est l'une des plus grandes menaces pour notre économie. Car si nous ne parvenons pas à étendre la durabilité à l'ensemble de notre système de production, à l'ensemble de nos structures commerciales, nous ne parviendrons pas à exploiter le potentiel de changement qu'il représente.
Un moteur qui, dans des pays comme l'Allemagne, fortement industrialisés et présentant des obstacles considérables d'adaptabilité, permet depuis longtemps de progresser non seulement en termes de responsabilité environnementale, mais aussi en termes de compétitivité.

C'est la durabilité, idiot !

Beaucoup de chefs d'entreprise prennent les engagements environnementaux à la légère. Or la durabilité n'est pas une tendance. C'est une révolution !

Im Januar dieses Jahres habe ich in meiner Kolumne darauf hingewiesen, dass Geld grüner wird. Ich bezog mich damit auf das berühmte Schreiben von Larry Fink. Darin verlangte Fink, Vorsitzender und CEO von BlackRock, der weltgrößten Investmentfirma, von seinen Beteiligungsunternehmen (darunter auch die größten spanischen Unternehmen), dass sie ihre Nachhaltigkeitsindikatoren verbessern.&nbsp;
Jetzt haben wir Dezember, und nach Erhalt und Prüfung der Berichte über die Entwicklung dieser Indikatoren hat das Unternehmen beschlossen, sie an fast 250 Unternehmen zurückzuschicken – wegen ihres mangelnden Engagements. Die Manager sollten so auf das Risiko aufmerksam gemacht werden, das sie eingehen, wenn sie die Anforderungen weiterhin ignorieren.
Finks Schreiben war nicht nur eine Absichtserklärung – es war geradezu eine Warnung vor dem aufkommendem Sturm: "Letztes Jahr stimmte BlackRock gegen 4.800 Direktoren von 2.700 verschiedenen Unternehmen oder enthielt ihnen das Stimmrecht vor. Wenn wir der Meinung sind, dass Unternehmen und Vorstände keine wirksamen Offenlegungen zur Nachhaltigkeit vorlegen oder keine Rahmenregelungen einführen, um diese Themen anzugehen, werden wir die Vorstandsmitglieder zur Rechenschaft ziehen."
Es scheint, dass in diesem Jahr noch viel mehr Führungskräfte ihren Arbeitsplatz verlieren werden, weil sie ihre Pflichten zum nachhaltigen Wirtschaften vernachlässigt haben.

Damit ignorieren sie, dass wir nicht vor einer Trendwende stehen – sondern vor einer echten industriellen Revolution. Ganz gleich, wie wichtig sie heute sind. Wenn sie darauf beharren, diese Revolution zu ignorieren, zu verspotten und sogar mit ihrer Ignoranz zu prahlen, werden sie sich selbst vom Wettbewerb ausschließen.
Bill Clinton gewann 1992 die Präsidentschaftswahlen, gegen alle Widerstände, mit seinem berühmten Wahlslogan "It's the Economy, Stupid!" ("Mensch, das heißt Wirtschaft!"). Und er gewann gegen George Bush, der überzeugt war, wiedergewählt zu werden. Heute könnte eine Reihe großer Unternehmen die Unterstützung ihrer Investoren und ihre Marktposition verlieren. Weil sie nicht verstehen: "Mensch, das heißt Nachhaltigkeit!"
Vor zwei Jahren, im November 2018, führte Spanien ein neues Gesetz zu Finanzinformation und Diversität ein. Dieses Gesetz sieht unter anderem vor, dass alle Unternehmen mit mehr als 250 Beschäftigten bis 2021 einen Nachhaltigkeitsbericht erstellen. Darin müssen sie, neben anderen Umweltindikatoren, die spezifischen Maßnahmen aufführen, die sie ergreifen, um ihren Kohlenstoff-Fußabdruck zu verringern, um Abfall zu reduzieren oder Energie effizienter zu nutzen. Viele große Unternehmen stellen sich diesen Verpflichtungen bereits. Aber die kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen tun es noch nicht.
Diese Woche veröffentlichte elDiario ein Interview mit Cristina Sánchez, der Geschäftsführerin des Global Compact Networks in Spanien. Ihre Organisation setzt sich für die Förderung der Nachhaltigkeit von Unternehmen ein. In dem Interview sprach sie von einer unternehmerischen Kluft beim Thema Nachhaltigkeit.
"Nachhaltigkeit spielt bereits in allen Geschäftsbereichen großer Unternehmen eine Rolle", erklärte sie. "Die Dinge fügen sich langsam zusammen. Es gibt immer mehr Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung dieses Themas. Aber die Kluft zu den kleinen Unternehmen wird immer größer, und die Pandemie hat das noch verschlimmert."
Aus Sánchez' Sicht "steigen viele kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen nur in das Thema ein, weil ein Großkunde das fordert, oder weil sie sich um einen öffentlichen Auftrag bewerben wollen, bei dem das erforderlich ist. Oder einfach, weil die Aufmerksamkeit des Eigentümers auf das Thema gelenkt wird. Aber sie haben nicht die notwendigen internen Ressourcen. Sie haben niemanden, der sich der Identifikation von Risiken und konkreten Verbesserungsmaßnahmen widmen kann."
Diese Kluft ist eine der größten Bedrohungen für unsere Wirtschaft. Denn wenn es uns nicht gelingt, die Nachhaltigkeit auf unser gesamtes Produktionssystem, auf unsere gesamten Unternehmensstrukturen auszudehnen, werden wir es auch nicht schaffen, sie zu dem riesigen Veränderungsmotor zu machen, der sie wirklich ist.
Ein Motor, der in Ländern wie Deutschland, die hoch industrialisiert sind und erhebliche Anpassungshindernisse haben, schon seit Langem genutzt wird. Es geht nicht nur um Verantwortung für die Umwelt. Es geht darum, wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben.

Mensch, das heißt Nachhaltigkeit!

Nachhaltigkeit ist kein Trend, der schon wieder verschwinden wird – wir stehen vor einer neuen industriellen Revolution.
